Four people taken to hospital due to house fire in Kelowna

Four people suffered from smoke inhalation and were sent to hospital and three cats were sent to a veterinarian for treatment due to a house fire early this morning.

Kelowna Fire Department received multiple 911 calls at about 4:15 a.m. today, Jan. 30, reporting a house on fire in the 2200 block of Woodlawn Street.

Crews found a single-family home with heavy flame and smoke at the rear of the building, according to a fire department media release. The fire caused major damage to the house.

There was also moderate damage to two nearby properties, one of which was vacant.

Four fire engines, a rescue unit and a command vehicle responded to the fire.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
