KAMLOOPS - Four people are in custody after allegedly breaking into a Valleyview motel room.

Kamloops RCMP Staff Sgt. Mat Van Laer says in a news release that just before midnight on Sept. 13, police were called to unit 17 of the Tournament Inn on the East Trans-Canada Highway, after a 911 caller said a door had been broken.

When officers arrived, several individuals were seen in the unit, and all attempted to leave seemingly to avoid contact with police, Van Laer says.

Since police had the location surrounded, all of those people were arrested while exiting the unit, and after further investigation it was determined four people had originally broken into the unit to wait for the primary resident, who was allegedly assaulted upon his arrival later.

Police found several loaded firearms within the room, which were all seized. Two men and two women are currently in custody and are under investigation for the incident, Van Laer says.

"Considering the firearms that were seized, we're very thankful to have received this 911 call and to have been able to prevent what ever these people intended to do with them," Van Laer says.

All four people who were arrested are from Kamloops and known to police.
