KAMLOOPS —  About a year ago Reid Lukinchuk met a Kamloops RCMP officer and ever since then he has looked up to the police as his heroes. His mom Bryanna says her son Reid, who recently turned four years old, still talks about that encounter with the officer.

"Reid has loved the RCMP for the last year. So whenever he sees them out in the community he has to go say hi even if they are clearly working," she says.

So when Reid was surprised by four Kamloops Mounties this past Saturday at his birthday party, he didn't know what to do with himself.

"Reid just had this huge smile on his face and he was dressed up in his little uniform," says his mom Bryanna who arranged for the officers to pop over during his party.

Bryanna says she posted to a Facebook community group asking if anyone knew any officers who would be willing to stop by and visit her son during his party.

"I got a message from a woman saying her sister works for the RCMP," Bryanna says.

The woman told Bryanna to get in contact with Cpl. Blair Wood who was also the same officer Reid had met a year ago. The officer agreed to make a visit. The mother assumed only one officer was going to show up and even she was surprised when she saw four police cars roll up.

"Everyone just ran outside," she says.

Reid got a chance to sit in one of the cars and learn how the sirens worked. The officers also brought stickers and colouring books for the kids at the party.

"They came over on their own time, before their shift even started," Bryanna says. "It meant much more to me [they] did this for Reid and it wasn't on work time."
