Four men busted in Kelowna for stealing RCMP bait bike

A bicycle is seen locked to a pole in this file photo.

Kelowna RCMP arrested four suspects between April 22 and May 11 for stealing a bicycle used as bait to attract the thieves.

All four men are from the Kelowna. They have been charged and will appear in court at a later date, according to an RCMP media release.

Police said the specifics about the bait bike and where it was stolen will not be released.

“RCMP also remind residents to properly record their bicycles serial numbers and have that information easily accessible in the unfortunate event of a theft,” Kelowna RCMP spokesperson Const. Solana Paré said in the release. "The Kelowna RCMP will continue to pursue active property offenders using innovative tactics and we will to do everything we can to stop these trends."

The likelihood of having your bike recovered and returned you by a police officer is very low without a serial number on record, RCMP said.
