ARMSTRONG - A four car accident ensued after a woman crossed the centre line on Highway 97A and sent a chain of reactions into play Tuesday night.

The 42-year-old Salmon Arm woman was heading northbound in a green Pontiac car around 9 p.m. with a 23-year-old female passenger when, for reasons unknown, she drifted across the centre line near Stepney Road.

RCMP spokesperson Gord Molendyk says a southbound Dodge pick-up swerved to avoid her and ended up in the ditch.

A vehicle travelling behind the Dodge didn't have time to avoid the Pontiac and collided with it. Another car following behind also joined the collision.

"When the dust settled, the two people in the Pontiac were taken to hospital with undetermined injuries," Molendyk says.

The investigation is ongoing, and Molendyk says there is no reason to believe alcohol was involved in the accident.

Three of the four cars had to be towed from the scene.
