Kamloops RCMP arrested two men and two women in a coordinated drug bust last week and three of the suspects have since been released.

Officers with the Targeted Enforcement Unit executed two search warrants simultaneously, one at a motel downtown and the other at a residence in the Dallas area on Feb. 29, according to an RCMP press release.

“The enforcement action was substantial and should send a clear message to drug traffickers in Kamloops,” Kamloops RCMP Supt. Jeff Pelley said in the release.

Mounties seized a significant amount of suspected drugs. Officers seized a kilo of cocaine, a kilo of meth, 14 ounces of fentanyl, an ounce of MDMA and more than 12 ounces of a pharmaceutical sedative called gamma-hydroxybutyrate.

Police found three guns, ammunition, a Taser, cash and other items that indicate drug trafficking.

The amount of fentanyl seized is enough for 10,000 potentially lethal doses.

“The drug seizure is significant in relation to the size of Kamloops and is expected to cause a disruption to those involved in the local drug trade,” RCMP Sgt. Kevin McIntyre said in the release.

“Those who are entrenched in the criminal lifestyle and may be concerned about potential fallouts that could occur as a result, are encouraged to reach out to the Kamloops RCMP with any information.”

Three of the suspects were released because the investigation is ongoing, and could take months while police wait for drug analysis reports and gather evidence needed to recommend charges.

One of the men who was arrested is still in custody because of an outstanding warrant.

Police have not revealed any details about the suspects.

“Our strategic priorities will continue to focus on disrupting organized crime and violence, and implementing initiatives to further intelligence-based policing to target high-risk individuals involved in both drug and firearm related crimes. It is the hard work of our Targeted Enforcement Unit, frontline officers, and support units, that is to be recognized for this recent seizure, that continues to put pressure on those who put our communities at risk. By addressing the root causes of violence and targeting criminal networks, we aim to help ensure a safer community for everyone,” Supt. Pelley said.
