PEACHLAND - Someone’s little stash of gold may help to make the District of Peachland a safer place.
In April 2018, the district received three police-recovered one-ounce gold bars and some cash, finance director Doug Pryde told city council.
The value of the the gold stash and the cash was worth around $5,400.
It remained unclaimed for three months, which means the town was able to add it to their coffers.
There was a good place for it to be directed, though.
Council moved the funds to the fire equipment reserve to fund a community policing vehicle. The vehicle cost around $32,000.
“Glad someone found the gold bars — but in all seriousness, it’s a good allocation of the funds,” Coun. Mike Kent said.
And, now that the funds have been allocated there will be no giving them back, as Mayor Cindy Fortin pointed out as she read the motion to approve the expenditure.
“Too late to get your gold back,” she said.
