The riding of Boundary-Similkameen officially has a BC United candidate for the 2024 Election.

Ron Hovanes was selected by the party’s riding association to represent BC United in the upcoming BC Election, ,according to a media release from the party issued, Dec. 20.

The former mayor of Oliver believes BC United is the right party to bring change to the community.

“I am excited to stand as the BC United candidate for Boundary-Similkameen. Together, we can address the serious challenges facing our community and province as a whole, including the healthcare crisis, public safety concerns, and the skyrocketing cost of living,” he said in the release.

Hovanes has taken on many leadership roles throughout his career. He was on Oliver’s Town Council for 16 years of which he was the mayor for ten years. He was also part of the Oliver Heritage Society, the Okanagan Basin Water Board, the Regional District of the Okanagan Similkameen, the Southern Interior Development Initiative Trust, and the Community Advisory Board for the Okanagan Corrections Centre. More recently, he has served as co-owner and President of Hovanes Community Services Ltd.

“Ron will be an outstanding candidate for Boundary-Similkameen. Ron has a proven track record of getting things done and I know he’ll stand up for the issues most important to the region like affordability, safe communities, and fixing healthcare. Together, we will fix British Columbia,” BC United leader Kevin Falcon said in the release.

Hovanes is excited to take on this role and hopeful for the future of his riding, the province and BC United.

“After two terms of the NDP government, everything is worse off in our province. I’m honoured to be part of the BC United Team joining Kevin Falcon to put forward a positive vision for the future of British Columbia and bringing a government to Victoria that knows how to get big things done. I’m looking forward to working with Kevin to build a stronger, brighter future for Boundary-Similkameen and our province,” he said in the release.
