Former North Okanagan resident convicted of revenge porn now guilty of harassment

A former North Okanagan resident just released from prison after being convicted for revenge porn for sharing nude photos of his ex-girlfriend, was back in front of a judge at the Vernon courthouse yesterday.

Russell Thomas Lamb, born 1988, pleaded guilty to one charge of harassment after a dispute with his landlady turned nasty.

Crown prosecutor Matt Blow told the court Lamb sent his landlady 25 harassing texts, along with phone calls, and an invitation to a fight within a 10-day period after he was evicted.

Lamb had been living in a basement suite in Coldstream in March 2021 when the harassing texts were sent.

The Crown gave few details on what was said in the text messages only saying they were "demeaning and assaulting."

One text demonstrated essentially what a "poor person he believed (the landlady) to be" the Crown prosecutor said.

While Lamb was living in Coldstream when the texts were sent, six months later in October 2021 he was sent to prison in a separate case of revenge porn.

According to the Vancouver Sun, Lamb sent nude pictures of his ex-girlfriend to her new boyfriend in retaliation after she testified against him in an earlier sex crimes case.

The case dates back to 2009 when Lamb was living in Squamish and had a relationship with a 16-year-old when he was in his early twenties. The Sun reported Lamb got the girl hooked on heroin.

In 2013, Lamb was sentenced to two years in jail for sexually touching a 15-year-old girl and luring a child under the age of 18 on the internet.

Five years later he then sent nude photos of the victim to her new boyfriend in revenge for testifying against him.

Lamb was sentenced to 14 months in jail but told iNFOnews.ca he was released July 1, after serving roughly 10 months.

The Crown told the court the landlady had suffered serious anxiety after Lamb had harassed her and her family. She is now taking anti-anxiety medication.

The court heard Lamb now lived in the Lower Mainland, near Langley, and was in a two-year common-law relationship. He doesn't work and was on disability benefits because he suffers from PTSD.

The court heard Lamb had been stabbed several times while in prison, once of which was almost fatal, and suffered PTSD because of this.

In a joint submission, lawyers requested two years probation and no jail for Lamb.

Outside of the sex crimes Lamb had previously been convicted for harassment in 2010.

Provincial Court Judge Jeremy Guild agreed to the sentence of two years probation.

"You might be upset with your landlord, it doesn't give you the right to harassment," the judge said.

Outside the courtroom, Lamb told iNFOnews.ca that he planned to keep out of trouble.
