Former NHL enforcer to stand trial on assault, driving charges in Kamloops

KAMLOOPS, B.C. - A former National Hockey League enforcer will go to trial in Kamloops, B.C., this May on charges of assault, driving while prohibited and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.

The charges against Rudy Poeschek stem from an alleged incident on July 5, 2014, the details of which have not yet been made public.

Poeschek played 364 games for the New York Rangers, Winnipeg Jets, Tampa Bay Lightning and St. Louis Blues over a dozen seasons, scoring six goals, earning 25 assists and drawing 817 penalty minutes.

His professional hockey career ended in 2001.

Between 1983 and 1987, the native of Terrace, B.C., played in the Western Hockey League for the Kamloops Junior Oilers and Blazers.

Poeschek is not in custody, and his one-day trial is scheduled to take place in Kamloops provincial court May 25.
