The leading challenger to Kelowna Mayor Colin Basran’s re-election bid in 2018 may be coming back for a rematch.
Tom Dyas is a former Kelowna Chamber of Commerce president who challenged Basran in the last municipal election but fell well short, getting 30% of the vote to 57% for Basran.
“Team Dyas” issued a press release today, June 27, saying he will make “an announcement regarding the future of Kelowna,”on Wednesday.
It does not say whether he’s running for mayor or council but the fact that he has a team working for him suggests he will be on the ballot for the Oct. 15 municipal election.
The announcement will be made at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, June 29, at Rutland Centennial Hall. The release says everyone is welcome to attend.
Basran has yet to say if he’s running for a third term.
The only incumbent councillors to declare their intentions so far are Mohini Singh saying she will run and Ryan Donn saying he won’t.
