PENTICTON - A zoning amendment to allow low density multiple housing on Forestbrook Drive in Penticton will go to public hearing on January 11.

City council voted for an amended zoning bylaw at 511 Forestbrook Dr. to allow for the construction of two duplexes along with a secondary suite for each principal unit for a total of eight units on the lot.

A staff report recommending the zoning amendment noted the neighbourhood’s present low density multiple housing designation fit into the intended classification as two duplexes with secondary suites could be classified as medium density housing.

Many homes in the area are small when compared to their lot size, potentially providing development sites for infill housing in the neighbourhood in the future.

Vehicle parking would be reduced with the zoning change with the construction of secondary suites, but nearby opportunities to park in the street and the fact that secondary suites typically provide more affordable housing options were noted as mitigating factors to the loss of parking.
