Foam Fest Run participants nailed for speeding on Silver Star Road

VERNON – Some of the estimated 5,000 people who took part in the 5K Foam Fest run at Silver Star Mountain Resort on the weekend appeared to be in a bit of a rush to get to the top of the mountain.

RCMP say 24 speeding tickets were handed to drivers on Saturday, June 13.

The speed limit on Silver Star Road is 60 kilometres per hour and RCMP say the average speed for the violators was 90 km/h. The highest speed clocked in at 96 km/h.

Police say they positioned a member of North Okanagan Traffic Services on the road in anticipation of the high traffic volumes, and it turned out to be the case, with traffic backed up all the way from Silver Star Village to the turn-off to Sovereign Lake Provincial Park.
