FLOOD WATCH 2017: Where you can't camp in the Southern Interior this weekend

THOMPSON-OKANAGAN - For many people in the Southern Interior, the Victoria Day long weekend marks the first camping trip of the summer.

But with flooding across the region washing out roads and prompting flood measures, some areas are off limits.

B.C.'s Transportation Ministry has put together a list of areas to avoid if you're planning on heading out for long weekend activities in the Thompson-Okanagan and Shuswap:

  • Allan Lake, Dunsapie Lake, Windfall Lake, Windy Lake and Whitewood Lake in Barriere closed due to multiple washouts along Jamieson Creek Forest Service Road.
  • Brennan Creek in Barriere closed until further notice due to safety reasons.
  • Cascade Beach in Lumby closed due to slide activity on access road.
  • Duffy Lake in Kamloops closed due to an access road being washed out.
  • Elinor Lake in Naramata closed due to a washout on the access road.
  • Fishtrap Creek in Barriere closed, access restricted north of the McClure Ferry due to erosion from water flowing over Westsyde Road. Access still possible by heading south on Westsyde Road from Barriere.
  • Helmer Lake in Merritt closed due to washout on access road.
  • Humamilt Lake East and North, and Nellie Lake in Scotch Creek closed due to access roads being inaccessible due to mudslides.
  • Isintok Lake in Summerland closed due to a washout on the access road.
  • Paska Lake campsite in Logan Lake partially closed due to creek flooding.
  • Pendleton Creek in Kamloops closed due to road washout.
  • Pinaus Lake resort in Falkland closed due to erosion and recent flooding.
  • Ross Moore Lake and Dairy Lake West in Kamloops closed due to road washout along Long Lake Road.
  • Saul Lake in Kamloops closed due to landslide on access road.
  • Snohoosh Lake North, Vidette Lake and Deadman Lake in Savona closed due to road washout along Deadman/Vidette Road.
  • Wallensteen Lake and Kernaghan Lake North in Salmon Arm closed due to slide on access road.
