Five ways to prevent theft this holiday season: RCMP

Now that the holiday season is well underway, RCMP in B.C. are reminding the public to be wary of sticky-fingered thieves and porch pirates.

Normally, there is an increase in thefts from vehicles, delivered packages and other items that are quick to steal, according to a North Okanagan RCMP media release.

Here are five ways the RCMP suggest would make it much harder for thieves:

1. Lock your vehicle doors and don’t leave anything valuable in them

2. When winterizing recreational vehicles, make sure to remove propane tanks and store them somewhere secure

3. If you’re expecting a package delivery, arrange for it to be made while you’re home or enlist help from your neighbours

4. Make sure your house is locked and secure if you’re leaving. Let your trusted neighbours know your plans

5. Keep an eye on your community. If you see suspicious activity report it to police.

“These few simple steps will help us all enjoy this holiday season,” Vernon-North Okanagan RCMP spokesperson Jocelyn Noseworthy says in a release.
