Five things to do in Kelowna this weekend

KELOWNA – Fat Cats, riding and baseball fill the weekend in Kelowna.

The Fat Cat Children’s Festival is coming to Kelowna’s Waterfront Park Friday, June 7 and Saturday, June 8.

Join in on the Interior Savings festival carrying the theme: Power of Play. Get dressed up, enjoy the parade, get your face painted, watch some incredible artistic performances, play and have fun.

Everyone is welcome to enjoy the Friday night Variety Show and DJ Dance Party, which is great for kids ages 5 to 12, featuring Gustavo the Impossible, for one night only.

Saturday performances include visiting artists Puzzle Theatre, Immigrant Lessons, Nylon Zoo and roaming clown Teddy. Local favourites include The Oot n' Oots, Trixie the Clown, Evan the Juggler, and Eagle Dancing by Syil'x artist Cori Derickson.

There will be interactive activity stations including Silver Springs Concrete, Okanagan Heritage Museum, Okanagan Regional Library, Yeti Farms, Hyper Hippo, Scouts Canada, Parks Alive and many more.

The Kelowna Falcons open their 19th summer in Kelowna this Friday, June 7.

The Falcons welcome the newest team in the West Coast League; the Ridgefield Raptors. First pitch at 6:30 p.m.

Admission is free thanks to Gord Anton of RE/MAX Kelowna. Come cheer on the new crop of players at beautiful Elks Stadium.

To keep the sports momentum going, the Best of the West Women’s Rugby Tournament takes place at Kelowna City Park Sports Field Friday, June 7 to Sunday, June 9.

Senior women's XVs squads from Alberta and BC Rugby will face off. This is a great free way to check out the sport.

Everything is in full bloom at the Lake Country Garden Tour Saturday, June 8 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Gardeners will  showcase their talents and great garden ideas, while artists display their works and offer a raffle at each garden.

Tickets for this self-guided tour are $25 per person and available at: Lake Country – Kel-Lake Greenhouse  and ACE Hardware in Lake Country, The Greenery in Kelowna,  Bylands Nursery in West Kelowna, Swan Lake Nursery and The Flower Shop Garden Centre in Vernon. Proceeds will go toward building park benches within the District of Lake Country.

It’s going to be a beautiful day for a ride Sunday, June 9.

The Telus Motorcycle Ride for Dad leaves from Banner Recreation and Marine.

Ride Day Registration is from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. at Banner Recreation. Kickstands up at 10 a.m. sharp to hit the road. Registration includes a poker run, lunch, door prizes and much more; all while helping raise money to fight Prostate Cancer. Banner is located at 819 McCurdy Place.
