KELOWNA - Fun won't be dampened by the small amount of rain and snow expected this evening as the clouds part and the sun shines down on the first weekend of the year.

A mix of snow and rain is expected Friday evening with temperatures moving from a high of 2 Celcius to -5 C overnight. Expect a mix of sun and cloud Saturday and Sunday with a high of 0 C.

With 16 wins in a row to brag about, the Kelowna Rockets are back in town to slay the Vancouver Giants at Prospera Place, 1223 Water Street, Kelowna, Saturday night. Tickets are available at the door and online

Feeling the blues after seeing the post Christmas credit card bill? Poppa Dawg may be just the thing, performing his brand of blues onstage at the Blue Gator Bar and Grill, 441 Lawrence Avenue, Kelowna, Friday and Saturday night. The show starts at 9 p.m. For more information visit the Blue Gator website.

If you're from West Kelowna, the blues isn't your thing and you're looking for a more savage way to express your anguish, take that Christmas tree you threw out on your lawn for a little ride... to be hacked to bits by firefighters January 4 and 5. For a donation, your ornament and tinsel free symbol of the season will be shoved into a chipper and the remains used for composting purposes, sold for mulching flowers and vegies come spring when the finances are back in order. Chipping takes place at station 31 at 3651 Old Okanagan Hwy, Station 1 at 2255 Enterprise Way and Station 4 at 619 Dehart Rd. with proceeds going to the B.C. burn fund.

For those looking to get hitched, the Okanagan Bridal Expo 2014 is happening Sunday at Prospera Place starting at noon. It's all about the latest fashions, flavours, colours and designs. Every bride at the event can expect to be entered for a chance to win a travel prize. Tickets are $10 in advance and $15 at the door. Details are available on the website.

Send your events listings to events@infotelnews.ca or call Howard Alexander at 250-491-0331 and tell him all about it.
