Police officers were first on scene when a fire broke out at a downtown Kamloops residence this morning.
The officers were dealing with an unrelated matter in the 600 block of Seymour Street around 3 a.m. today, April 6, according to an RCMP media release.
“The officers attended and observed the west side of a residence on fire,” Kamloops RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Crystal Evelyn said in the release.
“They knocked on the doors and windows and yelled into the residence to alert anyone who might be inside, but no one responded.”
Members of Kamloops Fire Rescue arrived and extinguished the fire. Firefighters were able to confirm nobody was inside.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
“Right now, it’s too early in the investigation to make any assumptions into the cause of the fire, including if it’s suspicious,” Cpl. Evelyn said.
Those who witnessed, have video or know anything that could help further the investigation are asked to contact the Kamloops RCMP at 250-828-3000 and reference file 2023-11551.
