PENTICTON - A new race will be added to the 2017 ITU Multisport World Championships in Penticton.
The International Triathlon Union Multisport World Championship Festival recently announced the addition of Aquabike category to the lineup.
The race combines a three kilometre swim and and a 120 km bike ride, offering athletes the opportunity to earn another world title in Penticton in 2017.
“We are thrilled to be adding Aquabike World Championships to the docket at the multisport world championships in Penticton next August,” Penticton race executive director Michael Brown says. “The addition of aquabike means the 2017 event is truly complete, with five world championship events.”
The 10 day multisport festival is anticipated to draw more than 7,000 to race in Penticton, with the Okanagan Lake beachfront the epicentre of the five events: Duathlon, aquathlon, cross triathlon, long distance triathlon and aquabike.
The festival includes a full week of triathlon, in addition to concerts, street dance, a race expo, parade of nations and kids races.
