Firefighters responding to new wildfire north of Vernon

A new wildfire was located north of Vernon today.

B.C. Wildfire Service has the newly discovered wildfire estimated at 0.01 hectares on July 12.

Armstrong Spallumcheen Fire Department responded to the scene and are supporting the wildfire service, northeast of Greenhow Road near the Vernon-Spallumcheen municipal boundary.

There is no suspected cause yet, but the wildfire service is expecting more information to be available when crews are able to assess the scene.

According to the media release, the Township of Spallumcheen has activated its emergency operation centre, the town has put properties on evacuation alert but did not specify where.

The township said updates will be provided on its website here.

The township is asking the public to respect crews working at the scene, signage and traffic barriers, while firefighters respond to the area.
