Kelowna firefighters were called to an electrical fire at a downtown business late last night.
The call came in at 10:30 p.m. yesterday, Dec. 29, according to a media release from the Kelowna Fire Department.
Crews were alerted the fire in the 300 block of Bernard Avenue thanks to a fire alarm inside of a business. Shortly after the fire alarm sounded, a neighbouring business reported an audible alarm and smoke inside their building.
“The alarm assignment was upgraded to a structure fire,” the release says.
Responding to the scene were a crew of 15, three engines, a ladder truck, rescue unit and command vehicle.
The first officer to arrive saw smoke coming from inside the building. Upon gaining access crews located a fire in the middle of the unit which was quickly extinguished.
The fire caused minor structural damage to an interior wall and there was some smoke damage in the building’s interior. However, the damage was contained to the area of origin.
After the initial findings, the fire appears to have been caused by an electrical issue, and inspectors will be investigating today.
