UPDATE: Three wildfires west of Kamloops now under control and being held

Original Publication Date May 31, 2019 - 10:48 AM

KAMLOOPS — Firefighters have made progress on three wildfires that started yesterday afternoon near Savona.

B.C. Wildfire Service responded to multiple small wildfires near Painted Bluffs Provincial Park near Savona yesterday, May 30.

Fire information officer Marla Catherall told iNFOnews.ca today, May 31, the largest fire at around 4.5 hectares, which is called the Painted Bluffs Provincial Park fire, is now being held and they don't anticipate anymore growth.

The other two smaller fires, Eagle Hill and Hardy Hill, are under control, which means they are not considered active fires anymore. Both of these fires are less than a 0.1 hectare in size, Catherall says.

Multiple firefighters, helicopters and air tankers responded to the three fires that were all believed to be started by lightning.

Lightning ignited several wildfires within the Kamloops Fire Centre yesterday.

The B.C. Wildfires Service urges the public to call *5555 or 1-800-663-5555 if they believe they have seen a wildfire.
