VERNON – Investigators are looking for the exact cause of a fire, which started in the kitchen of a home on Alexis Park Drive in Vernon on Sunday.

Vernon Fire Department Capt. Reinhard Mann says crews arrived at the home in the 3900-block of Alexis Park Drive at about 2 p.m., Sept. 6, to find flames, and heavy smoke pouring from the structure.

“We made entry through the front door and knocked the fire down,” Mann says. “The main floor of the house sustained heavy smoke and heat damage… and is uninhabitable.”

The man who lived in the home and his pet made it out safely and he’s in the care of Emergency Social Services.

Mann says the fire appears to have started in the kitchen area, adding investigators are looking for the cause but it appears to be “non-suspicious.”
