Firefighters douse blaze at old school board office in Kelowna

A fire at the old school board office in Kelowna was quickly extinguished by firefighters, Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2019.

A fire at the former Central Okanagan school district office in Kelowna was quickly knocked down by firefighters this morning.

The fire started in some shrubs at around 10:50 a.m. today, Oct. 29, and spread to the office building in the 1900 block of Underhill Street across from the Orchard Park mall.

Platoon Capt. Shayne Kiehlbauch says the flames extended into the soffits and fascia along the roof.

"Crews also entered the building to see if the fire had extended into the structure," Kiehlbauch said in a media release. "The fire was contained to the outside of the building but there was some smoke and water damage to the interior."

No one was hurt and no estimate of the damage done by the fire was available.

No word yet on what sparked the blaze.
