Kamloops Fire Rescue and B.C. Wildfire Service are battling a wildfire that was reported this morning near Goose Lake.

"Out of an abundance of caution, the City proactively activated the EOC and was ready to respond to multiple scenarios had the fire became a concern for the community. The fire did not threaten any homes at any point today," according to the City of Kamloops. The emergency operations centre was stood down at 12 p.m.

Traffic is restricted to local traffic only on Goose Lake Road as firefighters are on site and continue to action and monitor the fire, according to the City of Kamloops.

The wildfire, called by the Cole Hill fire, by the B.C. Wildfire Service, is mapped at 33 hectares with 10 personnel, and two helicopters on site being assisted by Kamloops firefighters, said wildfire information officer Taylor MacDonald.

The fire is located just outside of city limits, about seven kilometres southwest of the city's downtown and two km away from Jacko Lake, she said.
