KEREMEOS - An early-morning fire tore through an abandoned building near Keremeos on Sunday, but the fire department's fast work contained the blaze and made sure no one got hurt.
Keremeos Volunteer Fire Department Chief Jordy Bosscha said the department received a call about a structure fire two kilometres west of Keremeos at 5 a.m. on June 9. Around 14 members attended the scene and found an abandoned building engulfed in flames.
Crews worked for three hours to eliminate the blaze. Bosscha said there was no power or gas in the building, which made their work easier. He also said the building was unoccupied, so no one was injuried during the fire.
"It was pretty simple," he said.
The crew finished work around 8 a.m. Bosscha said the cause of the fire will be difficult to determine since the building completely collapsed.
