KELOWNA - With the risk of fires rated as high and hot dry weather pushing the ranking towards extreme, the Central Okanagan Emergency Operations Centre is warning people to be extra careful with any kind of flammable material.
Smoking is banned at all times in regional and municipal parks, beaches, sports fields and natural areas, a news release states.
If smoking in other areas, the butts need to be carefully extinguished and not thrown from car windows.
Open buring has been banned since April 30. Illegal fires can be reported by calling 250-469-8801. Anyone caught burning illegally can be fined and charged with fire department costs for responding to the burning complaint.
Campfires are never allowed in Kelowna but can be lit in the rest of the regional district that if serviced by a fire department and they are restricted in size.
Fireworks and firecrackers are only allowed with a permit from a local fire chief.
