Fire crews from Kelowna, Lake Country extinguish blaze after reports of explosions

KELOWNA - A building was damaged by flames and possible explosions before fire crews from Kelowna and Lake Country could extinguish the blaze early Monday morning.

According to a Kelowna Fire Department press release, several calls were received about explosions, flames and smoke coming from a commercial building in the 200 block of Tilley Road in Kelowna near the border with Lake Country at 2:32 a.m. on Aug. 5.

Crews from both Kelowna and Lake Country arrived at the scene and quickly extinguished the fire on the outside of the building. Inside the fire caused moderate damage to the building before the crews snuffed it out.

Kelowna Fire Department and RCMP investigators are looking into the cause of the blaze.

— This story was corrected at 11:06 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2019, to say the fire was in Kelowna.
