Fire crews extinguish blaze at West Kelowna house

WEST KELOWNA – Everyone made it out safely when fire broke out at a home in West Kelowna yesterday afternoon.

Assistant fire chief Chad Gartrell says in a media release firefighters quickly knocked down the blaze at the home in the 2000 block of Sunview Drive at approximately 3:15 p.m. yesterday, Oct. 2.

Smoke and flame were coming from a second floor window when crews arrived, he says. They attacked the fire from outside the house “slowing down the fire growth and keeping it from extending into adjacent rooms and the attic.”

Gartrell say some of the residents were home when the fire started, but were able to make it out safely. They and their pets are in the care of Emergency Support Services.

The cause of the fire is under investigation but it isn’t considered suspicious, he says.
