Gleeson, Kitsch team up for Newfoundland-set film, 'The Seduction'

Brendan Gleeson and Taylor Kitsch are teaming up for the Newfoundland-set film, "The Grand Seduction."

The $12.7-million project puts a new spin on the 2003 Francophone film, "Le Grande Seduction."

It centres on a small town desperate to lure a doctor so that it can also get a factory.

A spokesman says "Friday Night Lights" star Kitsch will play the doctor while "Harry Potter" star Gleeson plays a villager who does everything he can to make him stay.

Don McKellar ("Last Night") will direct from a screenplay co-written by Michael Dowse (who directed "Goon") and Ken Scott, who wrote the original film, "Le Grande Seduction." Scott was also behind 2011's francophone smash "Starbuck."

"The Grand Seduction" began shooting Monday in outport communities around Trinity Bay, Red Cliff, New Bonaventure and Port Rexton.

"It's been thrilling to see the elements of this production, this rock-solid script, this awesome cast and crew, coming together like natural forces in this timeless landscape," McKellar said Monday in a release.

"Each morning, coming to work I am amazed anew by the beauty of my surroundings."

"The Grand Seduction" includes appearances from Gorden Pinsent, Mary Walsh, Cathy Jones and Liane Balaban.
