BORDEAUX, France - Canada's Piper Gilles and Paul Poirier captured a silver medal in ice dancing Saturday at the Eric Bompard Trophy.
"For us it is mission accomplished," said Poirier, who with Gilles, has won three international silver medals this season. "While the score was similar to what we did at Skate Canada we felt we improved a lot. There's still the issue of consistency we need to work on to help us move up another notch."
Gilles, from Toronto, and Poirier, from Unionville, Ont., are coming off a roller-coaster season that saw them narrowly miss the Sochi Olympic squad.
They scored 157.58 Saturday to finish behind Gabriella Papadakis and Guillaume Cizeron of France, who won with 166.66. Americans Madison Hubbell and Zachary Donohue were third (152.11).
Alexandra Paul of Midhurst, Ont., and Mitchell Islam of Toronto were sixth.
In pairs, Ksenia Stolbova and Fedor Klimov of Russia held off two Chinese pairs for the gold. Kirsten Moore-Towers of St. Catharines, Ont., and new partner Michael Marinaro of Sarnia, Ont., were seventh.
Elena Radionova led Russia to a 1-2 finish in women's singles. Veronik Maillet of Sept-Iles, Que., was 10th.
The sixth and last stop on the circuit before the Grand Prix Final, is the NHK Trophy next weekend in Osaka, Japan. The Grand Prix Final is December 11-14 in Barcelona.
