Festivals dominate weekend scene in Penticton

PENTICTON - A busy late summer weekend is shaping up in Penticton with major sporting and music events taking place Friday through Sunday.

The Pentastic Jazz Festival gets underway today, Sept. 7 through the weekend to Sunday, Sept. 9. The annual festival features world class bands in five venues containing four dance floors.

The various locations include the Elks Hall, the Days Inn & Conference Centre, the S.S. Sicamous and the Trade and Convention Centre.

The 2018 Vancouver Canucks Young Stars Classic starts today, with the first game of the four-game, four-team tournament.

This year’s competing teams include prospects from the Vancouver Canucks and Winnipeg Jets, along with University of British Columbia Thunderbirds and the University of Alberta Golden Bears.

The tournament runs through the weekend to Sunday, Sept. 9, when the Vancouver Canucks Party on the Plaza takes place starting at noon.

The Summerland Fall Fair takes place Friday and Saturday, Sept. 7 and 8 at the Summerland Curling Rink. The fair begins Friday at 5:30 p.m. on Main Street with live music and a pie eating contest.

Saturday’s events start at 9 a.m and run until 5 p.m.

Penticton Dragon Boat Festival gets underway Saturday, Sept. 8 on Skaha Lake. The two day event features a beverage garden, vendors, lots of food and participation by 2,500 athletes.

Penticton’s Downtown Community Market operates from 8:30 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Saturday, on Main Street and Front Street.

The Penticton Farmer’s Market also operates Saturday morning, from 8:30 a.m. until 1 p.m. in the 100 block of Main Street.
