SASKATOON - A Saskatoon-area man who collects sports paraphernalia has just the ticket for some Saskatchewan Roughrider fan out there.
Brent Goodwin is selling what he believes to be the only authentic, mint-condition, unused ticket to the 1966 Grey Cup game in existence.
On Nov. 26 of that year, George Reed would lead the Saskatchewan Roughriders to a 26-14 victory over the Ottawa Rough Riders at Vancouver's Empire Stadium.
It was the first Grey Cup victory for the Riders.
Goodwin paid around $300 for the rare item and so far he's received offers upwards of $1,000 on Kijiji.
Although he considers himself a super-fan of the team, he says the item doesn't have as much meaning to him because he was only three when the 1966 Grey Cup was played.
"What I'm hoping for is they're coming out with an owner's Grey Cup ring for 2013, now that would have more meaning for me," he said.
Goodwin has been an avid collector of Rider merchandise and has an entire room in his home near Saskatoon — a room he's dubbed the Gopher Hole — dedicated to his impressive collection.
"I have a lot of old magazines, game programs from the '50s and '60s, I have the entire bobble head set that was put out in the '60s, I have all the $100 dinner mugs, I have, yeah, quite a bit of stuff," he said.
Last Christmas, Goodwin took a trip to Regina to pick up the last bobble head needed to complete the set. While there, he followed-up on a tip from a fellow collector about the rare ticket.
"The story goes it belonged to an uncle who lived in Vancouver, and the uncle had intended to go to the game," Goodwin said. "He had his ticket, he got sick, he put it in an envelope, stuffed it in a drawer. Years later he passes away. The brother goes, retrieved the items and found the ticket, and then sold it to me."
