A small plane has crash near Kootenay National Park in the Columbia Valley killing the pilot, the lone occupant.
RCMP received a report at around 4 p.m., Nov. 24, from a hunter who spotted a plane above them having engine trouble and then crashing into a wooded area, according to an RCMP media release.
The plane crashed north of Brisco on the Bugaboo side of the valley.
Columbia Valley Search and Rescue, the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre and Transport Canada were then alerted.
The following morning, Nov. 25, the crash site was located.
The pilot, a local area resident and only occupant of the aircraft, died in the crash.
“Our condolences go out to the family of the pilot who is a local area resident,” Columbia Valley RCMP said in the release.
Transport Canada will be the lead investigating agency going forward.
