KELOWNA - If you want to find out just how fast your car is, or maybe you only want to watch some of the fastest street legal cars in the province, the annual Street Car Shootout is coming back to Kelowna this summer.

Vanessa Richards is one of the organizers, and drivers, in this annual event. She says for race fans July 22 to 24 will be one of the most exciting weekends of the summer.

Last year the shootout featured more than 17 drivers and some of the fastest street legal cars in the province. This year, Richards says, they hope to have more than 25.

Cars regularly reach speeds over 120 miles per hour on the 1/8 mile track at Thunder Mountain Raceway and there will be camping spots available.

Last year Steve Skokin of Vancouver set the track record and Richards says he’s likely to do it again this year.

“He kind of knocked it out of the park,” she says. “Only one other person came close to him, and he’ll be back again this year.”

There is no pre-registration required for this family-friendly weekend, just show up Friday night to get your car checked out and pay your entry fee.

Winners get a cash prize, a trophy and sponsor-provided items. For more information visit the Shootout Facebook page.
