The Bay again stocks red Olympic mittens, this time featuring stripes

TORONTO - Canadians once again have the chance to get their hands on — or in — the Bay's once-ubiquitous red Olympic mittens.

But they've changed their stripes.

Hudson's Bay Company has unveiled a new design for the popular winter accessory, selling for $10 with net proceeds going to the Canadian Olympic Foundation.

The new mittens sport a red-and-white candy-cane design with a maple leaf stitched into the palm.

The popular all-red original mittens were a phenomenon during the 2010 Vancouver Olympics, with shoppers snatching up the patriotic fashion accessory with such enthusiasm that the trend even reached Oprah Winfrey, who distributed the mitts to her studio audience.

A second, updated design was released later in 2010.

The third iteration of the hand-warmers are available already at the Bay (in stores and online), as well as Zellers and Home Outfitters.
