There has been a recent series of farm equipment thefts around Osoyoos.
Thieves have stolen tractors and other vehicles so police have urged farmers to ensure their equipment is properly secured, according to a press release from Penticton South Okanagan Similkameen RCMP.
“In particular over the past month a group of Osoyoos farmers have fallen victim to theft of 2 tractors, 2 rugged terrain vehicles, and 1 all terrain vehicle,” Const. Kelly Brett said in the release. “Not only are these thefts discouraging for the small farming community, they have a large impact on operations and sustainability for the businesses and their families.”
RCMP believes the equipment is being loaded onto trailers or other vehicles and driven off the farms.
RCMP said farmers should check that their equipment is secure, even if it’s stored in a locked shed or outbuilding. High quality and visible security camera systems are an effective deterrent, according to police.
Anyone who provides information that leads to an arrest could get a cash reward.
Anyone with any information about these thefts is asked to contact the Osoyoos RCMP at 250-495-7236, or remain anonymous by calling Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
