Family stuck in deep snow rescued near Ashcroft

KAMLOOPS – A family of four exploring the forest service roads east of Ashcroft toward Logan Lake had to call for help when their vehicle became stuck in deep snow last night.

With temperatures hovering around the -25 Celsius mark in the area just after midnight today, Dec. 24, Alan Hobler with Kamloops Search and Rescue says their concern was “considerably elevated.”

Hobler says the family, who was lucky to have cell service, first called a tow truck, but the driver couldn’t make it to their location even with chains on. That's when the search and rescue volunteers were called and the snowmobile team headed out to find the stranded family.

“Given the temperature… we wanted to get there as quickly as possible and get them out,” he says.

Hobler says the family had also made calls to friends.

“And eventually one of their friends showed up and was able to drive in there and got them out just as we were arriving,” he says.
