Family fun to fill your long weekend

Lots of people flock to Sun Peaks for B.C. Family Day.

KAMLOOPS - The Family Day long weekend is once again upon us and a variety of family-friendly activities are ready to keep you busy.

The Blazers and the Storm will both hit the ice twice this weekend, first on Saturday evening and then again on Monday. The Blazers will host Kelowna at Interior Savings Centre at 7 p.m. on Saturday and then will take on Tri-City in a 2 p.m. matinee on Monday. The Storm will host Nelson Saturday at 7 p.m. and then Chase on Monday at 5 p.m., both games at McArthur Island Sports Centre.

For the music loving family the Kamloops Symphony is hosting Baroque Splendour on Saturday at the Sagebrush Theatre while Doc and the Disorderlies are set to play at The Art We Are. The Kamloops Fiddlers will also be playing at The Yacht Club Saturday evening.

On Sunday the week-long 2015 Canadian Masters Cross Country Ski Championships will begin at Stake Lake and the Kamloops Indoor GranFondo and Family Festival will take place at the Tournament Capital Centre. The festival includes free face-painting, crafts, exhibits, live entertainment and admission to the pool.

On Family Day Monday enjoy half price lift tickets at Sun Peaks, where there will also be family fun races, or head to the B.C. Wildlife Park. In addition to the normal animal sightings and encounters a book sale will also be taking place to raise funds for the new bear interpretive centre.

For those willing to travel a bit, head down to Vernon this weekend where the annual winter festival is taking place.

Depending on the weather, which is expected to be warm and cloudy, you can also head outdoors to the many sledding, skating and skiing areas around the city.
