It seems the list of things to do on the Family Day long weekend grows every year in Kamloops and the Okanagan.
The region's municipalities and businesses, as well as local ski hills, have scheduled special events in keeping with the family-themed long weekend. Family Day in B.C. is on Monday, Feb. 17.
Kamloops
Family Day activities in Kamloops include the 5th annual Family Day Festival from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Feb. 17, with a number of free activities, including a princess tea party, arts and crafts, face painting, live performances, practice karate, and opportunities to try new sports and learn all about science.
There's also a free swim at the Tournament Capital Centre from 1 a.m. to 4 p.m.
At least 50 booths and activities will be available along with prize opportunities.
Kamloops Alliance Church is inviting everyone to come out for a game of Pickleball at the Alliance Church gymnasium on Feb. 17. See the church website here for more details and game times.
B.C. Wildlife Park is also hosting a Family Day event with animal encounters, feed talks, colouring contests and Uncle Chris the Clown.
Family Day Yoga is a family friendly fun event that takes place indoors. It’s suitable for ages six and up, and all abilities. Cost is $10 for drop ins and $20 for families.
Vernon
You can take the gang to the Family Day weekend events at Silver Star Ski Resort complete with all kinds of activities, performances and even fireworks.
There’s free admission for the Family Day swim at the Greater Vernon Recreation Centre from 1:30 to 4 p.m.
Kal Tire Place hosts a Family Day skate from 10:30 a.m. until noon at a cost of $2 per skater.
There’s also Family Day in the Park event at Paddlewheel Park on Saturday, Feb. 15, with games, bouncy castles, broom ball, visits with Carnival cops, royalty, jopo and jopettes, a bonfire with smores and hot chocolate. The action happens from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m.
The Okanagan Landing Community Church is hosting a Winter Fest Free Family Fun event with carnival games, prizes, snacks, coffee, and a bouncy castle. It takes place at 5871 Okanagan Landing Rd. on Sat. Feb. 15, from 2 to 4 p.m.
Kelowna
In Kelowna check out Family Day Fun at the Capital News Centre, 4105 Gordon Drive from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Feb. 17. There will be fun and games for the whole family including free skating, inflatables, active games, soccer and more. Donations will be accepted in support of Jumpstart.
The Kelowna Yacht Club is hosting a Family Day Barbecue from 1 p.m to 4 p.m. Come by for a selection of barbecue items, hot chocolate, fun treats and activities.
Big White Ski Resort is hosting a Family Day Weekend on the mountain, from Feb. 15 to Feb. 17, promising a jam-packed weekend of fun and exciting activities, with something for every member of the family.
On Saturday, Feb. 15, the Family Day Glow Dance Party takes place at the Parkinson Rec Centre with a disc jockey and fun party games, and admission is free. The party runs from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
Also on Saturday, there’s a free Family Day skate at Rutland Twin Arena, from 1 p.m. to 3:15 p.m.
At H2O Adventure and Fitness Centre celebrate Family Day with 50 per cent off admissions between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.
Pony rides are scheduled from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Feb. 17, at the Horse Riding School Kyra Londos Training Stables. Ponies are an excellent way to see if riding is for you. You can take a ride in the safe, large pasture. The rides are suitable for ages 2 and up.
At Family Day at YMCA Okanagan you can join the YMCA downtown or at the Kelowna Family Y in Rutland for free facility access and fun, family-friendly activities. The fun times run from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. at the Y on Hartmann Road. The Kelowna Family Y has family barre class, family boot camp, gym activities, bouncy castles, rock climbing face painting, crafts and more, while the Downtown Y has family yoga, boot camp and cycle classes.
Penticton
The third annual Family Day in Penticton is co-hosted by Spectra and the City of Penticton from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Feb. 17.
Swimming is only a toonie all day, there will be an IGA barbecue by donation, a skate with the Penticton Vees, a family skate at the South Okanagan Events Centre, a photo booth, games and a complimentary hot chocolate or coffee.
Family Day at Apex Mountain Ski Resort includes 50 per cent off full day lift tickets.
