Family, cats, OK after Kelowna garage fire

No one was injured in a Saturday night fire attached garage fire.

John Kelly, Kelowna Fire Department Platoon Captain, said four engines, one rescue unit and a command vehicle with 18 personnel were dispatched to the 1500-block of Woodridge Road in Kelowna at about 9 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 9.

"The first arriving officer reported smoke and flames coming from the attached garage of a two-storey, single-family residence," Kelly said in a release. "The occupants were home at the time but were able to exit the residence without injury. Two cats were inside but were later located uninjured."

Kelly said crews entered through the garage and extinguished the fire quickly. While the fire was contained to the garage, the home suffered smoke damage.

The residents will be assisted by Emergency Support Services.

"The fire is not deemed suspicious but will be investigated by Kelowna Fire Department investigators."
