Family activities include auto shows and open air markets this long weekend

PENTICTON - Penticton and the Similkameen is a vintage car mecca for auto enthusiasts this August long weekend.

The 23rd annual Rotary Wheels Car Show takes place at Rotary Park in Penticton on Saturday, Aug. 4 from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The event included vintage automobiles, live entertainment, food vendors and a refreshment garden. It will cost you $2 to get in.

The 17th annual Kars Under the K takes place in Keremeos on Sunday at Memorial Park and along Main Street. There will be entertainment, games and swimming for the kids and a pancake breakfast. Registration starts at 8 a.m., show runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The Gordy Mannes Memorial Weekend takes place at Penticton Speedway on Saturday and Sunday starting at 7 p.m. each day. Events include hornets, street stock, Hit to Pass and the Eve of Destruction. Tickets are $20 for adults, while youth and seniors are charged $15. A family pass for two adults and two youth is $60.

Tonight’s Rock the Sun concert in Gyro Park features Uncorked, one of the South Okanagan’s favourite dance bands. The free, family-oriented performance gets underway at 7 p.m.

Penticton’s Farmers' Market and Downtown Community Market are on again Saturday on Penticton’s Main Street. The Farmers' Market’s hours are from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., and the Community Market runs from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Summerland’s Sunday Market takes place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Main Street.

Penticton celebrates the long weekend with B.C. Day in the Park on Monday, Aug. 6 at Gyro Park. The park will be transformed into a family fun zone with live performances, music, dance and free family activities. The action gets underway at 10 a.m. and runs until 5 p.m.
