Fall concerts and Christmas light-ups highlight weekend events in the South Okanagan

PENTICTON - It's a busy weekend in Penticton and the South Okanagan with fall concert performances, Vees hockey and downtown light-ups.

TEDx Penticton features a lineup of interesting speakers at the Cleland Community Theatre tonight, Nov. 25. The lectures start at 7 p.m. This year’s theme is “The Young. The Wise. The Transitional.” Curator Brian Hughes has speakers lined up to discuss each of the three concepts.

Tribute performers Dolly and Kenny perform at the Cleland Community Theatre on Saturday, Nov. 26 at 7:30 p.m, with special guest Reba. Tickets are $45 plus service charges and available online at etixnow.com or charge by phone to 1-888-790-1477.

A performance of the Okanagan Symphony Youth Orchestra takes place at Cleland Community Theatre Sunday, Nov. 27 at 2 p.m. Tickets can be ordered online at www.okanagansymphony.com or by calling 250-763-7544. Tickets cost $15 for adults, seniors and youth are $10, while children five to 12 years are $5.

Sunday, Nov. 27 is the Recreation Penticton Splash 'n' Dash at the Community Centre, beginning at 9 a.m. The swim/run race series is designed to be fun and relaxing, with adult distances of 750 metres for the swim and a three kilometre run. There’s also a children’s event in the leisure pool, cost is $18 for adults, $13 for children. For more information see the City of Penticton website.

Penticton Vees face off against the Chilliwack Chiefs Nov. 26 at 6 p.m. Doors open at 5 p.m. at the South Okanagan Events Centre, tickets are $13 adult, $11 senior, children and students under 18 are free. Tickets are available at the Valley First Box Office at the events centre, at ValleyFirstTix.com and over the phone at 1-877-763-2849.

The 29th annual Summerland Festival of Lights takes place today, Nov. 25, in downtown Summerland from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. Light-up events include fireworks, Santa’s workshop, photos with Santa, ATV rides, a bouncy castle, street performers and more. Festival-goers are encouraged to wear their Santa hats and anything that lights up. For more information see the Festival of Lights website.

The Oliver Christmas Light-up takes place Nov. 25 and Nov. 26 from 3 to 9 p.m. on both days. There will be Santa and family fun at the Oliver Community Park with a bonfire and fireworks later in the evening. For a full schedule of events see the visit Penticton website.
