The number of officers stationed at the Falkland RCMP detachment has seen a big increase now that the North Okanagan Traffic Services section is moving its members over.
Starting this week, a sergeant, two corporals, seven constables and a public service worker from the North Okanagan Traffic Services have begun using the Falkland RCMP detachment as their permanent home, according to a Vernon North Okanagan RCMP media release. Previously, there were only three officers working out of the detachment.
Traffic service members will be using the detachment as their base of operations but their responsibility is traffic enforcement throughout the North Okanagan and Shuswap area, RCMP say.
“Many of our community members in these areas have raised concerns about speeding and unsafe driving,” Vernon-North Okanagan RCMP Supt. Shawn Baher says in the release. “We welcome this move as it will increase police visibility and overall road safety of this busy traffic corridor.”
