KELOWNA - Former Kelowna Chamber of Commerce president Tom Dyas has confirmed his bid for mayor of Kelowna.

Dyas is perhaps the highest profile rival for incumbent mayor Colin Basran who announced in May he would see re-election for the mayor’s chair.

Josh Hoggan, Bobby Kennedy and Bob Schewe have filed their nomination papers.

The owner of a local group benefits and pension brokerage, Dyas most recently chaired the 2020 Memorial Cup bid committee, he said in a press release announcing his bid.

He calls financial accountability, citizen safety and homelessness, transportation and infrastructure, water management and managed growth as his top priorities.

Dyas announced his candidacy at a media event in Rutland but as of 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 12 had not filed the necessary papers with Kelowna’s chief electoral officer.
