Evacuation order issued for properties near Durand Lake wildfire

FILE PHOTO

The Thompson Nicola Regional District has issued an evacuation order for 95 properties near the Durand Lake wildfire, north of Logan Lake.

The wildfire is currently listed at 450 hectares in size and was caused by lightning. It is classified as out of control and located roughly 28 kilometres southwest of Kamloops, according to the B.C. Wildfire Service.

The evacuation order includes properties in Electoral Area J, the Copper Desert Country, of the regional district.

These properties include:

  • 4704 to 4792 Atwater Rd;
  • 4700 to 4870 Mile High Lane;
  • 4812 to 4897 Paska Lake Rd;
  • 4730 to 4890 Pine Ridge Way;
  • 4830 to 4860 Saddle Cres; and
  • other properties as identified on the attached map.

If you are in the described area, you must leave immediately.

Emergency support services will be provided if your primary residence is one of the properties under evacuation order.  No commercial lodging is available, so the TNRD asks residents to make arrangements to stay with friends or family.

If you require Emergency Support Service with group lodging report to either the Merritt Reception Centre at 1950 Mamette Ave, in Merritt; or Chilliwack Senior Secondary School, 46363 Yale Rd, Chilliwack.

If you can stay with friends or family, you can register for Emergency Support Services by reporting to the McArthur Island Sports Centre parking lot at 1655 Island Parkway in Kamloops.

To self-register as an evacuee at McArthur Island Sports Centre you can use the Evacuee Registration and Assistance Tool online.  When you arrive remain in, or near to, the vehicle you arrived in.  An ESS volunteer will contact you using the phone number you listed on your self-registration.

If you do not have a device that allows you to self-register, please report to the front door of the McArthur Island Sport Centre to provide your name and await further instruction.
