CLINTON - An evacuation order is now in effect due to the Elephant Hill fire.

An alert has just been turned into an order, according to a release today, July 29. The Village of Clinton and most of the surrounding areas must evacuate immediately.

There are some exceptions to the evacuation order which includes the Chasm Mill site, as well as some additional properties north-east of Clinton, including:

  • 925, 955, 985 McCall Road
  • 780, 793, 799, 802, 807, 808, 815, 820, 823, 825 Valley Road

The release suggests that evacuees shut off all gas and electrical appliances, other than refrigerators and freezers. Also, TNRD EOC should be contacted for large animals/livestock in need of shelter or evacuation at 1-866-377-7188.

Due to the fire Highway 97 has been closed at 70 Mile House and south of Clinton. The highway will remain open southbound so evacuees can go travel to Kamloops.

Evacuees requiring support services such as food and accommodation must register at the Sandman Centre at 300 Lorne Street, Kamloops, BC. Those that do not require these services are still required to register with the Red Cross at 1-800-863-6582 or click here.
