PENTICTON - The Eagle Bluff fire continued to grow over the past 24 hours and has prompted an expanded evacuation alert.

The fire, which has been burning since Sunday, Aug. 4, is now estimated at 1,250 hectares and is classified as out of control.

An evacuation alert was expanded yesterday evening, Aug. 8, to include 41 properties in the McKinney Creek area, due to potential changes in weather conditions in the area, according to B.C. Wildfire.

More than 100 firefighters, along with 13 helicopters and five pieces of heavy equipment are fighting the fire today. An incident management team and a structure protection specialist are now part of the fight. Structure protection units have been deployed to the fire as well.

A successful ignition operation south of Gallagher Lake was conducted yesterday and another planned ignition from Mudd Lake south towards McKinney Road area will be conducted if conditions are favourable.
