Spain: Palace lists gifts given to royal family for 1st time

MADRID - Spain's palace has for the first time published a list of 326 gifts given last year to the royal family, among them a wrought metal rifle from Jordan's Queen Rania and aprons from charity organization Caritas.

The palace said the list's publication is part of measures announced by King Felipe VI to clean up the palace's image on taking the throne in 2014. They include public audits of palace accounts and rules against receiving extravagant gifts.

Felipe took over the throne from his father, former King Juan Carlos, whose four-decade reign was marked by several scandals. Gifts he received during his reign included two Ferrari cars and a luxury yacht.

The gift list, posted on the palace website Thursday, was made up mostly of books and ornaments.
