Dozens stranded in northern Serbia in snowdrifts created by strong wind

Serbian emergency officials say dozens of people are stranded in their cars in the north of the country where strong winds have formed snowdrifts and blocked roads.

Officials say about 50 cars remain blocked Friday on a road about 50 kilometres (30 miles) northeast of Belgrade where piles of snow stopped traffic late on Thursday.

Emergency official Goran Nikolic says rescue crews have evacuated several dozen people from buses and cars, and further rescue efforts are underway. He says it remains unclear how many people are in the stranded cars.
